For this assignment, I was to tailor my resume to a specific job and see if I could reach the 80% mark and make sure my resume is top notch. Below are my results.

I struggled. Oh, boy did I struggle. Every change I made barely moved the percentage rating. Ever so slowly it would increase. I ran out of free scans and had make several new accounts.

Before I tailored my resume, my JobScan was less than 20%. It said I did not fulfill any of the requirements necessary and I had none of the skills. So, I revisited the scan, the job description, and my resume. Being that it is a graphic designer position, I missed some important keywords. While all of it was implied in my resume, the specific wording wasn't there for the ATS to recognize. So, I took it out and revised.

The main struggle I have had with this is that JobScan does not take into consideration plurals or tenses. You can see for yourself in my resume I clearly have a majority of the keywords they're asking for, but the program doesn't recognize some of them.

As for the layout of the resume itself, I have to say I think it looks pretty decent. All the important content is above the fold, it's in chronological order, and there is textual hierarchy. It's bullet points make it easy to scan and find what you're looking for. Also, my skills and the software I'm familiar with are also neatly organized.

In the end, I have to say I am proud to finally reach 72%. I am still working on getting up past 80%. Slowly but surely I am making my way there.

UPDATE:

I'm still at 73% for the Graphic Designer position above, but I reached 83% for another job I plan to apply for: Social Media Producer.
