For this assignment, I was to upload my new resume to Jobscan to see if I would be elgible for a certain job. I chose the Graphic Design job at Legoland. The results surprised me.
Job Description:
Looking for a position with a high-energy, fast-paced, growing organization? LEGOLAND Development is looking for an innovative, graphic designer to work with the Project Team. This role creates and modifies illustrations for use in various media, including in-park graphics, 3D signs, and other collateral. Displays a great imagination to create, design and facilitate production of various objects for the theme park. Prepares files for production, confirming specifications, technical details and ensuring all quality standards are maintained. Reviews installation and ensures quality of work being delivered.
Scope and Responsibilities: 1. Create compelling designs as fitting specific themes and attractions, ranging from attraction 3D signage to full, large format wall graphics. 2. Work with direction from Head of Marketing and LEGO partners to finish and produce mechanical design files from mockups or renderings, for both in-house and external production specifications. 3. Show creativity and attention to detail on all projects, with regard to layout, storytelling, legibility and maintenance of brand tone of voice while complying with LEGO brand guidelines. 4. Support creative development of attraction graphics, signs, ads and website assets for other departments as needed. 5. Prepare files for production through third party vendors, confirming specifications, technical details and ensuring all quality standards are maintained. 3+ years of experience in the field is required. Prior experience in either agency or in-house design capacity is preferred. Requires professional expertise working with the Adobe Creative Suite and Adobe Creative Cloud-based software, specifically creating original design work in Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator while adhering to brand guidelines and best practices. Also requires experience in creation of production and print-ready/mechanical files from design renderings or mockups. Must be thorough and able to manage a high volume of projects with attention to detail for copy and layout to ensure consistency and best delivery for messages both visual and written. Should have experience in digital design and familiarity with best practices for banner advertising, including copy placement. Prior experience in OOH mechanical production and photography retouching preferred.
Familiarity with .swf and .gif creation optional, but preferred.
I have to say, this job scan thing is incredible. To my surprise, my resume was not even close to matching the job description of Graphic Designer for Legoland. Reading through the scan, I have all the skills they are looking for, but it is not communicated correctly for ATS.
I have a lot of revising to do. What I realize now is that my resume is tailored more for marketing, writing, and teaching rather than graphic design. If I want a job in this field, I need to do several things:
Adjust keywords to match the job description
Adobe
Brand awareness
Product
Attention to detail
Graphics
Layout
Mockups
etc
Add job websites and addresses
Add time at each job
More measurable accomplishments!!
I have 3; need 2 more!
Change BS to say Bachelors
Remove "team player"
Adjust "Page size" (The document is not in print format, rather web)
After adjusting these, I will re-upload my resume and see if that makes a difference.
