Revised Portfolio Site

For this third assignment of my Portfolio III course, I was to revisit my portfolio site that I created in Editing for the Web last month. After taking into consideration the suggestions of my instructor and peers, I edited and revised my site to make it the best it can be. In the post below you'll find the link to my revised site and a short self assessment addressing prompts given in the assignment.

After receiving feedback from my peers and instructor, I made a few changes to improve my site, making it stronger. I changed the SF logo to a new SR logo so that there is no confusion as to why the site uses my legal name rather than my pseudonym. I also made the icons on the home page smaller to reduce scrolling and fixed the headers on several pages to ensure consistency. Also, I was able to receive testimonials from my employer, client, and instructors that I added to the site, enhancing my credibility. (I am still waiting for a few people to respond, so there will be more added in the future).

I will leverage this site by using it as a showcase for all my work. In the past, my old site had impressed employers/clients that I approached, now I feel this site will do even better. Not only will it be great to show potential employers/clients, but I will use it for my own sake. It is a way for me to organize my best work, see where I can do better, and come up with ideas of what I want to do next.

When I revisit this site in upcoming courses, there are 3 goals I would like to set for myself:

  1. Figure out how to create a sticky logo above the navigation. The template that I am using in Weebly is very limited and I endlessly searched for a way of making my logo remain when the user scrolls. However, I know there has to be a way to fix that so hopefully I will find it in the future!

  2. Add more recent work from doing PR for SF Publishing. Even though I have a lot of content on my site, I feel like I am lacking showing what I have been doing recently, especially with PR. I have done so much in the past few months that I really want to showcase the materials I created, the events I managed, and so on.

  3. Incorporate my external blog into my Weebly site using an RSS link. I understand how confusing my blog was when it took the user to Wordpress. The reason for me having different CMS platforms is because Weebly didn’t offer the option of having blog followers/subscribers. I switched from my blog being on Weebly to Wordpress a while ago. Frankly, I like Wordpress’s blog layout better but I do want to remain consistent.
