In the beginning of this month, I wasn’t sure what to expect when we were first introduced to Symbaloo and the term “curating”. As we went through the month and added new links to our Webmix, I never realized how helpful it would be to my project creation. With all of the assets I accumulated, I was able to find references, images, music, and more to make my projects professional and captivating.

I am definitely keeping the links we used throughout the month. The professional YouTube videos that we were supposed to watch have already helped me in this course, and I am sure they will assist me in the future. I am always in need of references and inspiration, and now I have a few to get me started.

Curating habits I have developed are to bookmark anything I find useful. Even if I don’t have time to go over it when I find it, I can put it in my Webmix and save it for later.

Curating resources enriched my MCBS experience because it helped me acquire assets I'll need throughout the rest of my Full Sail journey.

The authors of “Curation Before Creation” and “Not All Digital Assets Are Equal” believe that curating quality assets is a better approach because they understand the value of time and digital assets. They know how tiresome it is to go through hundreds of images, most of which are the same, just to find one okay-ish photo. The dozens of pictures people take a day are mostly unimportant or have no meaning. Rather than wasting time on worthless images, these authors want to move people to take one photo that has purpose. Romney Whitehead, author of “Curation Before Curation” on the blog Borrowed Insight, is careful with his assets and photographs what he “want[s] to remember or reflects an important moment in life.” (2014, para. 6) With this purpose in mind, they encourage people to take time with the assets they create. Not only does it save time, it also makes it more desirable. If there is great content in one photo, people are more likely to select that one rather than choose one out of dozen with decent content. Like Phil Speigel says in his post “Not All Digital Media Assets Are Equal”, “It’s no longer content rules, but quality content rules!” (n.d., para. 9)
